Ingredients

  • Matcha powder: 2 – 3 grams (adjust according to personal taste)
  • Lemons: 1 – 2
  • Honey or syrup: 2 – 3 tablespoons (add according to your preference for sweetness)
  • Drinking water: an appropriate amount
  • Ice cubes: an appropriate amount

Tools

  • A glass: for holding the drink
  • A stirring rod or spoon: for stirring the drink
  • A strainer: for filtering lemon seeds and pulp
  • A small saucepan or a microwave – safe container (for heating water to brew matcha)

Preparation Steps

  1. Brew the matcha
    • Put 2 – 3 grams of matcha powder into a small bowl or container.
    • Boil a kettle of water. Wait until the water temperature drops to about 60 – 80℃ (high – temperature water can damage the nutrients and flavor of matcha). Pour a small amount of hot water (about 30 – 50 ml) into the container with matcha powder.
    • Use a stirring rod or spoon to quickly stir the matcha powder and water, making it into a smooth, lump – free paste. If you have a chasen (a bamboo whisk), you can also use it to whisk the matcha in a circular motion at a fast speed to create rich foam, which will make the matcha taste more creamy.
  2. Prepare the lemon water
    • Wash the lemons and cut them into thin slices. You can decide whether to remove the seeds according to your preference. If you don’t like the bitter taste of lemon seeds, you can use a strainer to filter the lemon juice.
    • Put the lemon slices into the glass. Squeeze the lemon slices gently with a spoon to release the lemon juice and aroma.
    • Add 2 – 3 tablespoons of honey or syrup to the glass and stir well to dissolve the honey or syrup completely. You can increase the amount if you prefer a sweeter taste.
  3. Combine the matcha and lemon water
    • Pour the brewed matcha paste into the glass with lemon water.
    • Add an appropriate amount of drinking water and stir well. Generally, the total volume of a glass of drink is about 250 – 350 ml. You can adjust it according to the size of the glass and your personal needs.
  4. Decorate and enjoy
    • Add some ice cubes to the glass to make the drink cooler and more refreshing.
    • You can also add a slice of lemon as a decoration to enhance the visual appeal of the drink.

Tips

If you don’t have hot water, you can also brew matcha with room – temperature drinking water, but you may need to stir for a longer time to ensure the matcha powder is fully dissolved.
